I teamed up with three engineering students to create a mobile platform that supports augmented reality and 3D drawing over a period of 24 hours.
WHAT IS?
The "whiteboard" is accessible via a mobile app coded with Vuforia in Unity, using the smartphone camera to detect the XYZ coordinates of the april tag wand. Using the tilt of the tags and the distance from the camera, the application allows for the user to move within 3D space. We also utilized Facebook's API so users can collaborate in private sessions.
HOW?
Physical componenets utilize an Arduino Light BlueBean to communicate with the mobile app over bluetooth. The housing was lasercut and assembled with acrylic solvent, designed to accomodate the april tag "cube" and hardware components. The smartphone camera detects the perspective/distance/change in distance to determine where the user is with the wand, and sends the coordinates to the mobile app.
MY ROLE
I acted as project manager, working primarily on hardware and concept ideation. I heavily developed the system and accompanying hardware. In addition to this, I lead communication with software, exploring different triangulation processes.
